Championing Auburn schools for more than two decades, Julann has never been one to sit on the sidelines. She’s been an active classroom volunteer, Parent Teacher Club leader, past president of the Auburn Education Foundation, owned a business that inspired children’s creativity, served on several district budget committees, and now is a proven educational leader with two-full terms as an elected AUSD board member.

Her unwavering passion for student achievement in an enriched learning environment drives Julann to continue the urgent work needed to ensure strong Auburn schools.

Julann served as AUSD Board President in 2017 and 2021. During her tenure on the board, she was instrumental in lowering the district’s past debt by more than $38 million, reducing the potential negative impact on our school district’s general fund. She also was effective in the development of a district-wide Strategic Plan that prioritizes student achievement, social emotional wellness, and fiscal responsibility.  She also helped develop a Facilities Master Plan designed to create modern and effective learning environments for our students and community.

Still, Julann recognized that she needed to take an active role not only in Auburn, but also on the regional and state levels if she was going to impact real change for our schools and community. In 2017, her peers recognized her leadership by electing her as a delegate on the California School Boards Association (CSBA), where she is a respected and vocal advocate at the State level for fair and full funding of our public schools, as well as local control of educational funding. Since then, she served on the Policy Platform Committee in 2019, and Legislative Committee in 2021 and 2022.

Julann is a graduate of University of California, Santa Barbara, a member of Auburn’s AAUW chapter, a recent graduate of Leadership Auburn, and works professionally with small businesses to enhance their financial standing. Her financial training and background is an especially critical skill for understanding the notoriously complex school funding policies, systems and regulations. This and her breadth of experience allows her to bring common sense measures, strong analytical abilities, compassion for the social-emotional wellness of our students and staff and understanding of real-world solutions to help Auburn’s schools quickly recover and thrive in this post-pandemic era.

Most of all, Julann is proudest of her husband of 27 years, Kendrick, and their two sons Avery and Jeremy. They have called Auburn home for 22 years, raising their sons through local schools into successful young adults. Even though her children are grown, Julann’s passion for Auburn’s schools is as strong as ever.
